A little love…

PortlandtownUSA
by Mike MidloHang Low, Hang Low
You Old Western Skies
To The Green, Green Valley Below

It’s Hard, So Hard
Some Just Melt Away
But I Call It “Home Sweet Home”

I’ve got this friend who says, “Mike, you’ve always got your head
up in the clouds
You’re looking soaking wet, why’d you want to live like that?
For crying out loud!”
See, she can’t see, there’s no place I’d rather be
In the U.S.A.
Yep you bet, it’s right here on the Willamette
And that is where I’m going to stay

Let the Rain, Let the Rain Fall Down
I’m a rambling man who finally understands
Where he belongs
Let the Rain, Let the Rain Fall Down
Of all these Towns and States, I just can’t wait to
Get back to Portlandtown

Now let me lay it to you straight, I do appreciate what
Warm Sunshine brings
Tan my hide, run around Outside
But here’s the thing
There’s a place out West, O’er the Cascade Crest where
I’ll do just fine
It won’t take long, we’ll take the Trail to Oregon
And stick me where the Sun don’t Shine

Let the Rain, Let the Rain Fall Down
I’m a rambling man who finally understands
Where he belongs
Let the Rain, Let the Rain Fall Down
Of all these towns and states, I just can’t wait to
Get back to Portlandtown

PortlandtownUSA was just on the radio and really distracted me because I had never heard it before and because it made me think of home. I really enjoyed the song a lot, but when it finished it got me thinking about another excellent song…

this great pairing:
Portland
By Loretta Lynn
(Duet With Jack White)Well Portland Oregon and sloe gin fizz
If that ain’t love then tell me what is
Well I lost my heart it didn’t take no time
But that ain’t all. I lost my mind in Oregon

In a booth in the corner with the lights down low
I was movin’ in fast she was takin’ it slow
Well I looked at him and caught him lookin’ at me
I knew right then we were playin’ free in Oregon

Next day we knew last night got drunk
But we loved enough for the both of us
In the morning when the night had sobered up
It was much too late for the both of us in Oregon

Well sloe gin fizz works might fast
When you drink it by the pitcher and not by the glass
Hey bartender before you close
Pour us one more drink and a pitcher to go

And a pitcher to go [repeat]

As I think I have said before, Germany is now our home, but Portland will always (always) be home-home!

Oh, and now two of my new sisters (by marriage) are now pregnant, one is far enough along to know that her boy is as big as a banana…where is the third one? Pregnancy always seems to happen in threes…

Congratulations ladies, I love you and hope your pregnancies are wonderful and easy (as they can be) experiences.  ❤

  1. Hello. I just found your blog, and I have to say that even though I’ve never been to Portland, the films of Kelly Reichart made me fall in love with it, too. “Wendy and Lucy” has a special place in my heart.

I love comments and feedback, so leave me some.
