For my birthday I asked for a few books from my husband, one of which was a students textbook about how to be a better writer titled, “Writing Academic English, 4th Ed.” by Alice Oshima and Ann Hogue. First of all, the book shipped from Powells in Portland, YES!!!
The main present however was inside of the book towards the back. The previous owner “Sam” left a homework assignment behind as well as some of his work on the pages of the first three chapter…
I took pictures of the document, but I don’t think they do the work justice…

I wonder if Sam passed the course he was taking or if he got fed up and dropped the class? By the look of the work in the book itself, it is hard to tell. Perhaps the whole class was at a lower writing level requiring the teacher to go very slowly and thoroughly through the units?
